Our History

The school opened in 1983 as Success Laventille Composite School (SLCS) with just 240 students, nine teachers, a principal and vice-principal, and ancillary staff. The subjects offered were Maths, English, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and PE.

The first administrators Mr. Colthrust (first principal) and Mr. Persad (first vice-principal) working along with a core of committed and inspired teachers laid the foundation for achievement and discipline in the early years and for which the school continues to be known today. The School’s Hall is named in their honor as a tribute to the stability and discipline they instilled in the student body.

The first set of teachers included Mr. Brian Smart (who made his contribution in the arena of the pan and cultural activities in the school as Head of the Modern Studies Department), Ms. Applewhaite (who made her contribution in the arena of student development and discipline as a Dean) later there was Ms. Baksh (she is now the principal carrying on the leadership of the school into the twenty-first century) and Mr. Williams (who made his contribution in the arena of mas, sport and discipline–he organized many winning school band portrayals from the Art room, he has been involved in netball as well as his role as a Dean). These teachers are an example of the dedication and investment teachers at Success place in the students and the institution.

The school Steelband was established in 1984

The school mas band was established in 1987

The student population grew from 240 in 1983 to 1200 by 1987; today the number of students average 800-900.
